James Feldkamp, Commander USN Retired, brings over 30 years of expertise in national security. He holds a master’s degree in international affairs and graduated from the U.S. Naval War College. Feldkamp is the author of the university textbook “Theory and Politics of Terrorism” and has edited numerous publications on related subjects for Oxford, Routledge, and Lynne Rienner Publishers. He has presented lectures on terrorism and maritime security at various national and international conferences. He has taught courses on both domestic and international terrorism at several universities in the Washington DC area.

Prior to his academic career, Feldkamp served as a Naval Flight Officer, flying combat missions during Operation Desert Storm. Subsequently, he joined the FBI as a Special Agent and was a founding member of the Tidewater Joint Terrorism Task Force in Norfolk, Virginia. Feldkamp later resigned from the FBI to run for Congress in Oregon’s 4th Congressional District, becoming the Republican nominee in both the 2004 and 2006 elections. Returning to active duty, he last served as the International Outreach Officer for the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office and The Office of Global Maritime Situational Awareness in Washington, DC.

Since retiring, Feldkamp has embarked on a circumnavigation of the globe with the Clipper Round the World Race. He remains active by engaging in sailing, skiing, and wreck diving off the Spanish galleon Atocha. Additionally, Feldkamp participates in enrichment, speaking aboard cruise ships and delivering lectures throughout Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean on topics including military history, the Vikings, histories of Vietnam and Spain, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and the culture and cuisine of various nations.
